The Golden Globes is the Fox News of entertainment awards. The joke around Hollywood is that the only reason they exist is for their members to meet and mingle with the biggest celebrities once a year. Movies like Burlesque (37% on Rotten Tomatoes) and The Tourist (20% on Rotten Tomatoes) are nominated for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical – the real comedy being that The Tourist is considered a comedy.

The awards are for those within the industry, but the internationally televised “ceremony” is for the public; therefore, it should be made entertaining to them. With Ricky Gervais, co-creator and star of the original BBC version of The Office, has made the last two years’ awards worth watching – all at the expense of those receiving accolades. His brutally honest words last year were offensive, yet funny for everyone. This year, Iron Man‘s Robert Downey Jr. noted that Gervais’ hacks were “hugely mean-spirited,” almost ensuring that he will not be returning in the future.

Mean-spirited or not, Gervais was hilarious. He may never work in Hollywood again, but he didn’t say anything that didn’t warrant it – with the exception of the joke about the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (the association putting on the event and paying Gervais to host it). While most sites are eager to post Gervais’ transcribed jokes, I think it’s funnier to hear them from his own mouth. Watch the videos below to see all of Gervais’ great moments from both the 2010 and 2011 Golden Globe Awards. Enjoy!
