There’s nothing worse than a movie whose advertising campaign is hilarious, but the actual movie isn’t. Such is the case with Unfinished Business.
Vince Vaughn leads the movie as a guy who walks out of his job when his cocky boss (Sienna Miller) demands more work and less pay. Unwilling to take it anymore, he pulls a “Jerry Maguire” and asks if anyone wants to come with him. Instead of getting cute blonde Renée Zellweger, he gets a 67-year-old love-sick man seeking a divorce (Tom Wilkinson) and a clueless 20-something (Dave Franco).
Cut to one year later. Without a single sale, their business is about to go belly-up. Their only hope is a potential client that will require them to travel across the country and over to Europe to complete the sale. Now, with everything on the line, they have to perform like never before.
Many elements exist within Unfinished Business that will leaving you scratching your head and asking yourself, ‘What the hell am I watching?!‘ It’s directionless. You never know where it’s going, what the characters are doing, nor what is going to happen next. On top of that, it earns very few laughs. And the oddest aspect of it being laugh-less is that fact that many of the jokes that work so well in the trailers don’t work at all in the feature. Their placement and editing is worlds better in the adverts than in the movie itself.
The only redeeming element of Unfinished Business is its ability to be unpredictable. If only movies that were actually worthwhile could pull off that feat.
